For some reason Afrika Bambaataa has been on my mind for about a week.

Every since they popped into my head I have been being reminded of them about 3 times.
Twice while at a tribute to Women in Hip Hop at Alvin Ailey and once someone was bumping Planet Rock in their car.

I figured it was a sign they should be this weeks Way Back Wednesday focus...

I was originally going to go the Planet Rock route but the video to Looking for the Perfect Beat is way more entertaining to me so here you go...

OK, so there is this great British artist out right now named VV Brown and I am so thankful for iPods. If it wasn't for them I would have already popped the tape or scratched the CD with all the rotation it's getting over here. I haven't been able to play an album from beginning to end in ages and it feels soooooo good. I'm in Musical Heaven

VV is super fashion forward and has her hands in quite a few things.

Besides being on her US tour right now she has launched an online vintage clothing store called VV Vintage.

Her album Traveling Like the Light, was released in the US on February 9th of this year, but the Brits had have the pleasure of her tunes since July of 2009. No fair!

Yesterday while shopping with my girl SoyJoy we saw his older brother JoJo.
He gave me one of those, "Guuuurl, you don't know who I am?" looks.
As we kept it moving I mentioned that dude was giving me a weird a$$ look
and didn't even realize who he was till we were about a block away.

but it actually it was a group called Family Stand...

The group Family Stand was made up of Peter Lord,
Jefferey Smith, and Sandra St. Victor. Their song, Ghetto Heaven was huge hit
back in 1990 and Common used the hook for his song of the same title in 2001.

I used to love this jam but I sure couldn't figure out what they
were talking about....Was it good loving, was is drugs, liquor? Yo No Se, but her are the lyrics...they didn't help me though.

OOOOO, They Know They're Wrong for That...

Now I’m not going to go off too badly about this cause I am sure many people are MJed out while others are deeply mourning the passing of a legend (R.I.P.), but I know Mike was trying tomoonwalk out that casket when he heard his daughter’s voice on that stage. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that was dead ass wrong???

MJ kept his children covered in scarves when they went into public before now and his family takes them from relative obscurity, to the middle of The Staples Center with over 20,000 people, media galore and a live TV audience.

No wonder he wanted the kids to go to Diana “Nut A$$” Ross. For all the crazy stories that have been told about her over the years, her kids seem pretty well adjusted.

Having those children up there with the whole family and then adjusting the mic for Paris and Janet talking about “speak up sweaty…get close”, just ain’t right in my eyes (I didn't add a pic here on purpose; we need give those kids the chance Michael never had, to be kids). Those children needed to be sitting in the front row with Nana Katherine if ya ask me...Hmph!

Alrighty, I’m done with my mini rant…Rest in Peace Michael, and as Marlon said, maybe now they'll LEAVE YOU ALONE!

Musical Affirmations

Many moons ago I worked at a law firm in midtown NY and while there I met some great people. One of which is a man named Kevin Brightman. Kevin has always been one of the most driven people I know. In addition to his day job he often played the piano at various churches on Sundays and was always taking classes to perfect his art of music (and still does to this day). In addition to playing the piano he plays the organ, guitar and writes music.

After many years of focus, Kevin has put his efforts into his debut album;

“All Is Well” and with fellow musician Derek Gibbs, their group Forever Forward, has created a wonderful mix of gospel, jazz and R&B that will leave you feeling nothing but positive energy.
